Rear camber rod mod

I saw few ppl asking waht is most HD ball cup is cause their rear ball cups keep popping, cause rear camber rod is tilted backwards by default if you hit somethin by rear wheel ( ex: chicanes) ball cup does pop and your done for that heat!

and replacing this with other brand is hack! or even a old closed cap style Losi ball cups is not an good idea you will need to pop em out every time you working on it, that will makes your car sloppy and ugly!

That will makes your car look like this!!!
please ppl you can stop right there!!!

I did manage prevent this by using a small flathead screws and also replace mounting round head screws with short one as I post it here but problem is I can't insert open-end wrench between the ball cups and rear shock tower.

and here is what I did.

I put a longer flat head screw from front and locked it with a lock nut from the back.

there you have it folks, please keep your type-R beautiful.

RCMadness start building a track

I'm so glad to write RCMadness who has been in this business for long time at CT finally start building a carpet track in their newly moved premises

In my guess Dec/20/2009 should be our targeted date to make first trip, finally I can start race my type-R again!!!

2WD TC to save the class?

From my Experience with an 1/10th off road class, a 2WD chassis can be more popular than current 4WD chassis in TC, this might bring more people back to this hobby for following reasons.

1: Lower chassis cost/ IMO a kit around $200 is possible

2: Less wear/economical running cost

3: Less damaged on a crash/ lots of ppl went to 1/8th off road cuz car don't break after a reasonable crash.

4: compare to smaller scale cars more room for electrics / I don't mean to say anything bad about mini-z or cup racing cars but to me they are too sensitive to set up change or too compact for human's finger size

5: Roomy layout don't need a low profile servo, Micro RX or and micro ESC

6: limited over all traction requires only a controllable horse power.

7: last but not least/ get rid of body rules. people love to race their dream cars than a Mazda 6. just like an RCGT rules lets drive some fancy cars!

what do you think?

I started racing with 1/10th off road 2WD and always enjoyed 4WD every chance I had, but almost every one quit running 4WD offroad so soon beacuase of opposite of above reasons, 1/10th electric 4WD off road was never a popular class and lots of ppl thought if the AE built one they will come but that didn't happened, also we all noticed 1/10th gas TC race getting smaller every season but 1/10th off road 2WD been popular till today.

with very sophisticated suspension logics and tires/chemicals available today I do believe we will have enough traction in any surface that we been run with 2WD tranny.

actually that remind me I drove my novice buddy's car fine around a track when he asked me to drive cuz car felt weired, I found a problem for him, his car lost a spool and had only rear wheel drive in that run.

there is lots of opinions on the web about how we can rejuvenate this once was popular class .

ppl talking about eliminated few class , such as killing the 13.5, entire foam or they even talking about folding the Mod class!

or there is idea about going to 1 cell on all sedan to replaced all our recently purchased 2cell Lipo!
to me that don't make much sense at all

so in my opinion this class can attract more racers and live longer with 2WD chassis.

My guess for Black Diamond by Advanced Electronics

My guess for this ESC algorithm is this ESC monitor how much amps draw and see if amps draw increased or decreased on throttle position.

when throttle getting pumped or at high position and amps draw dropping than it increase timing.

like when you drive a 1:1 scale car, when RPM gets steady you will changed to next gear.

current Tekin software increased Timing (RPM) after set delay and that only works if you hitting same line every time coming in to straightway.

but with amps sensing, as soon as top speed is reached with fixed timing (1st gear) it kicks in with higher timing right away to reach faster speed sooner.

Hottest talk in town!

Advanced Electronics (AE) debut in last IIC and kicked butt with many controversy then team CRC(importer of this ESC in US) came back to the Cleveland race and done it again, this time rest of the lapped drivers talking about BAN this ESC!

like old say "Bad publicity is still a good publicity" nobody can banned anything like this, it's proven in history (of RC racing) instead of go back to their drawing board and burn mid night oil and get some work done most of this ppl just wanted to whine and cry about it, more crying you do more people will pay attention to this ESC and end up buying one.

the price of this ESC is $400 USD as of Nov/2009 but I believe this is first batch in factory in Sweden came to US in FEDEX, once more demands and more production units take a place with slower shipping, I know this cost can be adjusted in reachable price.

IMO, Let them get paid for their hard work!

lipo battery price dropping

keep your eyes open or hang on till Christmas time, we might see some huge dropping on Lipo battery

also there is news out there who also found Lipo battery safer (no explosion) and we might don't have to see this Lipo battery get replaced by Li Fe battery so quick cause of safety reasons.

Battery tray tweak

I was rebuilding my car to get ready for the Queens track grand opening on end of this month, which got delayed till next year!

anyway I was tweaking my car to get flatten it out then found out even a Lipo plastic tray does make a chassis quite stiff and tweaked

I removed my battery tray only to find out chassis is slightly tweaked with a tray in the place, I think this only happen if you tape your battery to the tray instead of foam tapes on place under the upper deck.

then I was thinking about the solution for last few days and came up with following.

1: enlarge those tray hole and countersink larger so placement of battery mounting holes don't interfere with the chassis tweak.

2:milled out 1mm off the tray's mounting ears and upright Alu stands 1 mm to mount silicone seal (from shock) between Alu stands off and a tray.

this way my chassis can stay flat and have natural flex on corners with cushion of silicone seals, I'll post few pics as soon as I done it, on here and maybe on the RCtech too

Real movie about the RC car racing?

we been talking about how the "speed" channel should have a coverage for the RC racing and how real media give no coverage to us.

well here is the chance we been talking about, right here in NYC!

I already bought a ticket for the movie " Carpet racers" showing at Queens Int Film festival here at Astoria, Queens, NYC.

I watched the trailer and extra footage few times and it does looks great, I also visit director "Jay Thames" page at IMDB.COM and found his films are very interesting or I should say intriguing.

all you RC racers around the NYC need to be there or keep your paragon can shut next time when we get low turn out at a local track.

Tuning my car for the carpet season

We all been heard new carpet/asphalt track will be opening soon here in Queens, NY

yes lucky me, I have a mini-Z track with in 3minutes from my home and the new track would be within 15min distance MAX! man my life is good!

anyway I ran similar to Mike Haynes set up last year at 360, I did okay with that, this year I have few ideas I been thinking to make my car run faster, as I progress my work toward end of Nov, I will share some thoughts on this blog.

So much fun with a 10.5 at Blue Diamond

So here is my I could would should race report

the day started it funny

I was telling my buddy to re-check all his screws cause every time I go to a new track something weired or never happened before issue come up to ruin a run.

I check every each single screws of my car and re done tweak and every detail, I thought I did! during a main race I was running 2nd behind my buddy Rich who ran 1st place (who also lost shock tower screws) then unthinkable happened! my servo horn screw came off!

I checked all the screws except the one blocked by a battery pack! doh!!!

I also lost my best round by that screw, my car felt little loose beginning of main straight as I punched only to crashed on the outside barrier to get DNF in that 3rd round which was a rocket round.

I also over geared my car at main race that made my car slower than the whole field, you gotta love that evil straightaway at Blue Diamond that keep asking for more speed!

it was another great learning experience and can't wait till run my Type-R again!

Getting my Type-R ready for the carpet season

I got followings for the carpet season

1: New upper deck, my old one has been modified like the Lucas's too much flex won't be any good on the carpet but I may slice little to experience some other effect, stay tuned!

2: LOSA3323 white Center pulley set made for the JRX-S Pro
3: LOSA3211 white main pulley set for made for the XXX-S need to enlarge middle hole with a Body reamer.
4: Robinson spur machined in white Derlin.
(2~4 parts can be very helpful since the carpet balls getting stuck in drive trains are in dark grey color.)
5: body post stiffener, preventing body tucking from tight high-speed rug munching!

I'm ready to get rug burn! or burn some rug!

Sad ending of outdoor season for NY area drivers

90% chance of rain, Temp as high as 40F ! Yike! we had to cancel our last race of the season in Jackson, NJ

I was looking forward to be at this race since I never had chance to try my New Novak Ballistic 13.5 and few mod I made on my Type-R, oh well I might go to Horsham to race before NYC hobby open their new track, until then I will be at Mini-Z track at least twice a week to practice.

Last outdoor season race at Jackson, NJ this weekend

The race is for good cause for charity race on this Sunday.

I will need to get my spool fixed up with 4 screws on each out drive and I gotta make a set for my buddy young too, I don't know if I have that many set screws I might have to remove all the set screws from 48P pinions.

I been practicing Mini-z latley at NYRC near my home sometime. I think it can help me quite well

hope to see many of you at the Jackson this Sunday.

    5th element ready

5th body mount and front bumper mod is done, I knew I can't wait a full day.

When I was kid I used to unwrapping plastic off a kit on the way home in the Bus! once I spilled few parts all over the moving Bus floor, hahah

going to race at windy Jackson 2weeks later and hope this help me a bit.

    Body collapsing

I found a following image and wanted to prevent that on my car with a bumper mod I been observed and a 5th body mount.

so I cut old bumper in about 1/3rd thickness and glued with some old style "bond" I found during moving.

I will post it again tomorrow when I do this

hopley won't come out like this

Season ending race of da beach track at Staten Island.

I went to race at da Beach track and had great time.

few things that I experienced is like Flyingfox spool mod I did held up great but could been better if I modified little further which I will do with in a week or two to race at the Jackson for their Last race of the season, I'll post here once it done.

Mazda Speed 6 is for Radius turn and LTC-R for square up turns, car carrying more grip till end of radius with a Spd6, perhaps here in east coast with all this plywood barriers with lots of sharp corners better use with a LTC-R

oh! GREAT news for NY racers! Vito at NYChobbies just announced their opening of Carpet track in Queens, stay tuned.

    Mini-Z ready to go!

Got a car from friend of mine Roland, painted a new body in 2 tone! haha

going to practice this Saturday, oops that's today!

    Friday, October 2, 2009

Nor do people pour new wine into old wineskins.

To congrats myself in to a new home I painted a new body for my Machine!
wanted to try compare this Spd 6 with a old LTC-R I been running, I found my car have little too much steering on end of high speed corners with the LTC-R, I'll find out if that is a body or my set ups with a Lucas upper deck or something else

It's been a long time since I painted myself with more than 1 color (spray bomb baby!) came out okay, if you look at em at 5ft distance.

Lucas won it again! with the Type-R

The 2009 French Cup was held in Bordeaux, France won by Lucas urbain ! with the Type-R! Congrats Lucas!

My Novak ballistic motor just arrived

I saw one of fastest local driver switch to the Novak and went BALLISTIC by lapped every one.

only thing that concerned me was wire tab bent in wrong direction and sensor wire directing to the center pulley

Instead of bending the tabs straight I dremeled out left only a mm on bent parts to clear from the rear bulk head.

those tabs are made from VERY thick copper and trying to bend that tab should be very hard and won't come out neat, I already saw some one did it, it ain't pretty, dremeling also left me little bit of bent shape tabs for easy soldering

then I modified my home made wire guide slight a bit to guide wires out little bit too, with other motors sensor wire sit between alum column and the guide.

now My Novak motor perfectly fits on my type-r what a beautiful sight this is!

Going to Jackson, NJ this Sunday

Club racing at it's finest, probably less traffic than summer cuz no Beach traffics.
going to try NOVAK 13.5 Ballistic motor before the Regional

I also wanted to practice staying focused for whole 6min 30sec, lately I focus for an 1/2 min staying wake then driving under all blur to crash or bobble to wake up for next 30 seconds again

I remember staying focused for whole 4min 30sec back then when I had more hairs and 50Lbs skinnier Ialso remember every detail what went around me after each race but these days I don't even remember who I hit till some one giving me Long face.

I still have to get used to my TEKIN RS ESC but my Lap top crapped out again and I don't know what to do with my Tekin RS, my T60 thinkpad giving me 3 beeps on Bios, no screen, no booting and stays dark until I hit the Power button and it goes off.

I'm kinda sick with the cold too but

I can almost hear ppl screaming on the fence goes

YOU can do it Johney PUNCH IT! but Smooth~

Best transponder holder on Losi EVER!

Remember House transponder? each track had them, they also had a hole punch or a Drill with a 1/8th" drill bit by the computer booth to make a ugly hole on our beautiful Lexan body

but some of us, RC gigs had to have a custom AMB holder Low & centered, neatly done for best handling, Pro-Loooking chassis, Like this guy

puhahahah, I found this car from old thread of rctech.net and I think I also remember the owner of this car as well

    remember him?
