Going to race at Horsharm! with New wiring

I will finally get to run at the horsharm indoor carpet this Sunday, Ray Murray who organised this "slow-birds" was kind enough to have this race on Sunday for rest of us!

to get ready for this race I 'm doing few things.

I soldered input wires on back of a Tekin RS then soldered Deans in 90 degrees to get wiring more simple and also save some high gravity mounted weight, 2pc of 12 AWG in few inches should be meaningful weight on car's cornering weight.

but...I can't shrink wrap the wires, I quit smoking 2years ago and got rid of all the matches, lighters and candles!

I'm going to start off with Greg sharpe's set up for the track but that 2deg front anti dive and the 41t Fr pulley kinda got me worried. oh well!

Here I come another roller coaster race day! 1st time on the horsharm, totally different set up! 3 cups of coffee!!

CANT WAIT!

New adventure!

I'm proud to let my type-R fellows to know I became a exclusive distributor for the Sweep racing, well known for their 1/0th and 1/8th off road tires.

me and all my friends done testing for our all new "EXP30" tires and I can tell you this tires we like to called it a SUPER SOREX.

test was performed in west coast, central US, and of cos here in east coast as well.

the home page is still in early stage of it's life but I expect all my type-R fellowships to be there, and make some buzz in the forums where you usually go!

the link is located on top of this page.

Back to BASICS!

Thank you very much Greg Sharpe! you done everything for me that day!

Went to racing at RCM last Sunday came back so tired i finally have some time to write in here.

I had no traction again at that track again, that got me and Greg Sharpe, the Bear all feeling weired about my car, ride height, damping, all fine! but car spins out as soon as I get back on the gas after the Apex.

so I messed up in 1st and 2nd qualifying run horrible time, right before the 3rd round I felt Greg's type-R diff and decide rebuilt mine.

my diff was very lose from 2 weeks ago I ran it like that but didn't rebuilt before this race and what happened was I spun that diff so fast for so many run the diff had no grease on it but felt smooth cause being so lose! it's like having a gear diff on it, only difference was mine had no power going on any of my rear wheels! the gear diff transform power at least to the wheel that lifting!

after the rebuilt car ran fine but while I was practing I got T-bone perfect and destroyed my Novak XXTRA RX! me and buddies trying to solder this RX back on line but not good, Greg sharpe lend me a NEW M8 and a RX for me to run in 3rd heat and Main.

so after all that rushing changing radio gear here at 3rd and last round kinda b main qualifiers all got together packed in 10 car race, as you guessed it. we went to dog fight! we bite, kick hacked each other so bad none of us improved their own time. what a bunch of animals! man I hate all of you! and they hate me too. hahah

here come I'm in 7th in the B main, I decide to try a set of Sweep racing EXP30 tires that I start importing, my car had so much grip and so much faster everywhere I was leading that B main after few laps. then I bobbled a little few passed me then I went Mike Tyson through every corner, FULL speed on that sweeper after a main straightaway, BAM! hit the CRC click barrier, bounce off to the outside barrier SO HARD, I broke A-arm of cos AND A front shock tower!

a lesson I learned from this race: every basic component of my type-R needs my attention too!

what good is low roll center, Tekin 203, turbo this and that! if your Diff is slipping all over the place!! go check the basic components of the machine first!

Good NEWS!

I know I wrote here in my blog that track's not going to happen and I did say that cause my source is very reliable too, BUT the most trust worthy source is Vito himself, and I know Vito would not BS with us for this kinda matter.

until the track open I'm just going to keep my hope high and give them all the support as I can.

Hope to see ya at the Queens track!

A note to myself

I have to believe in myself ALWAYS!

my opinion first on my work or on my machine!

forget what others saying!

I was at race last week trying out the Tekin 203 for the first time I had my own formula to figured out the end RPM, my car was flying in TC but Friend of mine who suffered in 1/12th scale needs my help on his Tekin. I was going to enter XXXX RPM but another buddy of us who is national level in 1/12th scale keep asking me to enter higher value, much higher.

well I wasn't sure for a 1/12th scale made conformist and entered between number of his and mine on the ESC.

the result wasn't as I wanted (not fast enough)

today I read on the Tekin thread and found out my calculation was exactly correct!!

I could would, should

The end of a dream

There will be no indoor track in queens by NYCH.

Raced at RCM yesterday

first race in 2.5 month and the place had no heat.

16F outdoor snow storm!

36F! indoor!!

the track had no traction but their local had their work done and had some traction.
also the freezing car, my frozen blue screen brain caused few shattered parts.

enough about crying.

I did few testing on the new sweep tires and the New Tekin 203 software, my 17.5 duo 2 equipped machine ran in 10.5 speed, it was just insane to drive.

I tried few setup change to gain rear traction but I don't think I went soft enough on the springs or long enough on a camber rod, my shocks felt like a 800CST oil with a 400CST in it!

I Qualified on 4th behind 3 top Local drivers and DNF in a Main race with a shattered servo horn.

they might have a heater installed by this weekend, I will make sure they have heaters installed before make a trip to their annual January JAM on Jan/17/2010

The Power of a Tekin 203

This crime scene was done by Robbie dodge (current ROAR TC champion) he just tapped throttle on the bench for the first time and see what happened!

thats with a 17.5 too!!!!

I tried mine with out a pinion this morning, as soon as I squeezed the throttle I heard some crazy screaming from my motor that I never heard before! I had to let off the throttle right away!

I can't wait till this Sunday!

for other ESC users, this Sunday will be a crime scene!

Happy new year!

Hope you all have a wonderful new year and peace on earth!

Spring etching

Can someone do this for us?

I know next best thing is dremel notches on a spring coils, 10.5=1, 12.5=2notches...

Those rating stickers comes off every time you need them, YUK!

Rear camber rod mod

I saw few ppl asking waht is most HD ball cup is cause their rear ball cups keep popping, cause rear camber rod is tilted backwards by default if you hit somethin by rear wheel ( ex: chicanes) ball cup does pop and your done for that heat!

and replacing this with other brand is hack! or even a old closed cap style Losi ball cups is not an good idea you will need to pop em out every time you working on it, that will makes your car sloppy and ugly!

That will makes your car look like this!!!
please ppl you can stop right there!!!

I did manage prevent this by using a small flathead screws and also replace mounting round head screws with short one as I post it here but problem is I can't insert open-end wrench between the ball cups and rear shock tower.

and here is what I did.

I put a longer flat head screw from front and locked it with a lock nut from the back.

there you have it folks, please keep your type-R beautiful.

RCMadness start building a track

I'm so glad to write RCMadness who has been in this business for long time at CT finally start building a carpet track in their newly moved premises

In my guess Dec/20/2009 should be our targeted date to make first trip, finally I can start race my type-R again!!!

2WD TC to save the class?

From my Experience with an 1/10th off road class, a 2WD chassis can be more popular than current 4WD chassis in TC, this might bring more people back to this hobby for following reasons.

1: Lower chassis cost/ IMO a kit around $200 is possible

2: Less wear/economical running cost

3: Less damaged on a crash/ lots of ppl went to 1/8th off road cuz car don't break after a reasonable crash.

4: compare to smaller scale cars more room for electrics / I don't mean to say anything bad about mini-z or cup racing cars but to me they are too sensitive to set up change or too compact for human's finger size

5: Roomy layout don't need a low profile servo, Micro RX or and micro ESC

6: limited over all traction requires only a controllable horse power.

7: last but not least/ get rid of body rules. people love to race their dream cars than a Mazda 6. just like an RCGT rules lets drive some fancy cars!

what do you think?

I started racing with 1/10th off road 2WD and always enjoyed 4WD every chance I had, but almost every one quit running 4WD offroad so soon beacuase of opposite of above reasons, 1/10th electric 4WD off road was never a popular class and lots of ppl thought if the AE built one they will come but that didn't happened, also we all noticed 1/10th gas TC race getting smaller every season but 1/10th off road 2WD been popular till today.

with very sophisticated suspension logics and tires/chemicals available today I do believe we will have enough traction in any surface that we been run with 2WD tranny.

actually that remind me I drove my novice buddy's car fine around a track when he asked me to drive cuz car felt weired, I found a problem for him, his car lost a spool and had only rear wheel drive in that run.

there is lots of opinions on the web about how we can rejuvenate this once was popular class .

ppl talking about eliminated few class , such as killing the 13.5, entire foam or they even talking about folding the Mod class!

or there is idea about going to 1 cell on all sedan to replaced all our recently purchased 2cell Lipo!
to me that don't make much sense at all

so in my opinion this class can attract more racers and live longer with 2WD chassis.

My guess for Black Diamond by Advanced Electronics

My guess for this ESC algorithm is this ESC monitor how much amps draw and see if amps draw increased or decreased on throttle position.

when throttle getting pumped or at high position and amps draw dropping than it increase timing.

like when you drive a 1:1 scale car, when RPM gets steady you will changed to next gear.

current Tekin software increased Timing (RPM) after set delay and that only works if you hitting same line every time coming in to straightway.

but with amps sensing, as soon as top speed is reached with fixed timing (1st gear) it kicks in with higher timing right away to reach faster speed sooner.

Hottest talk in town!

Advanced Electronics (AE) debut in last IIC and kicked butt with many controversy then team CRC(importer of this ESC in US) came back to the Cleveland race and done it again, this time rest of the lapped drivers talking about BAN this ESC!

like old say "Bad publicity is still a good publicity" nobody can banned anything like this, it's proven in history (of RC racing) instead of go back to their drawing board and burn mid night oil and get some work done most of this ppl just wanted to whine and cry about it, more crying you do more people will pay attention to this ESC and end up buying one.

the price of this ESC is $400 USD as of Nov/2009 but I believe this is first batch in factory in Sweden came to US in FEDEX, once more demands and more production units take a place with slower shipping, I know this cost can be adjusted in reachable price.

IMO, Let them get paid for their hard work!
